For: Page editors.
A Message button needs the account’s X user ID made of digits. The app can find the ID from a username. The check may fail if there is a problem with the account, API key or X.
What you may see
While you set up the button, you may see one of these messages:
-
“No account found with that username”
-
“Couldn’t look up this account”
-
“X is busy right now”
What to do
-
Open the account on X and check its username. Fix any typing mistakes in Item to share.
-
Choose the next action from the table below.
-
If you know the correct X user ID made of digits, enter it instead. You can save this ID without a site API key.

What the editor tells you |
Next action |
|---|---|
|
No account found |
Check the current username on X and correct the input. |
|
X API key setup is needed |
Ask an admin to connect the site X API key. |
|
Could not look up the account, or X is busy |
Wait and try again later. |
Check the result
Check that the editor finds the right account. If the other fields are valid, you should be able to use Insert or Save. There is no lookup button to press. The account may still block direct messages.
