Why does an older X embed no longer work?

X no longer supports some older embed types. The app cannot bring back a type that X has removed.

Does every older embed need replacing?

No. The current app can read macros that the older app saved if the type still works. You do not need to open and save each one first. Your site may still need an app update. X can also remove the source content or block access to it.

Access does not change. If guests or readers who are not logged in could see an older embed, they still can after the update.

Check the old type

Older types included Likes timelines, Collections and Embedded Grid. You cannot choose these for a new embed. A public X List is a different type and still works with the current app.

Replace the content

  1. Open the old source on X. Check what is still public.

  2. Edit the Confluence page. Open the macro editor if you can.

  3. Choose a supported source and type, or replace the old item with a current embed.

  4. Check the preview and save.

Use Embedded Post for one post, Embedded Timeline for one profile, or Embedded List for a public List. If you cannot edit the old macro, send its page URL and a screenshot to support.
